The horrific images coming out of Baltimore are tragic. Rioting, frustration, questions surrounding excessive police force, etc., the problems in this great city are knotty to be sure. But in the midst of the chaos there are a number of Christians and churches who are quietly standing fast, coming along side, and demonstrating grace and mercy to their neighbors. One such example is Donte Hickman. Donte Hickman serves as the lead pastor for Southern Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. He and his congregation have responded with courage and faithfulness, while providing hope in the midst of a difficult time for Baltimore. During the riots this past week, the Southern Baptist Church’s senior housing development was burned down after years of funding efforts.
Through a ‘gofundme’ on-line campaign started by Michael Wear, the church is hoping to recoup what has been lost so that they can continue to serve the city of Baltimore and her people. This is an opportunity for the Christian church to stand side-by-side with those who are serving on this difficult mission field. So many are asking, ‘How can I help?’ This is a fast and easy way to do just that. Consider donating and helping this church rebuild their housing development for seniors and show the city of Baltimore how Christians stand with one another. To donate, follow this link.
