The second section in the book of Acts roughly begins in chapter 6 and continues on through chapter 12. It is in this second section that we get to see how the mission of the ancient Christian Church was being re-directed to primarily move into and evangelize the Gentile world. Up until this time the Christian mission had been restricted to the Jewish community in and around Jerusalem. But the church was about to be sent out into the wider world. Three remarkable narratives solidify the foundation of this enlarged mission: Philip the Evangelist / the Damascus Road conversion of St. Paul and the conversion of Cornelius the Centurion. But we cannot understand what happened in those three narratives unless we first begin with the life of Stephen the first Martyr of the Christian Church. Tomorrow morning at City Church-Corpus Christi that is the narrative we will be studying.
